Below are QuickTime
movies and photos of class at Defensive Arts Plus. They
show some of the things that we practice, but certainly
not all.

Movie
1: This is a QuickTime movie of Smith Sensei demonstrating
one of the many jumping, escaping exercises in Kosho Shorei
Ryu yoga. These exercise are designed specifically to strengthen
muscles needed for escaping arts, and increase endurance.
Movie
2: This is a movie of Tom Fromal, in the kids' class,
playing an escaping arts game. The attacker attempts to
keep the defender on the mat, while the defender uses principles
of Kosho Ryu such as zig-zagging, moving twice, and using
preparatory arts to escape through a pre-set "door" to the
area. Children learn through many games which teach them
the principles of natural law, while having fun.
Movie
3: This is a demonstration of one way to throw an opponent.
In Kosho Ryu, the defender uses the attacker's own energy
against him. When this is done while throwing a person,
it is very subtle and difficult to counter. Good kempo looks
like an accident.
Movie
4: This is a demonstration of the use of kansetsu waza,
or folding tricks. This includes joint locks and throws,
which can be used to control the opponent or escape from
them. If necessary they can be used for destructive purposes
as well, but that is considered a last resort.
Movie
5: This is a demonstration of the destructive arts of
Kosho. When all more peaceful measures fail, this understanding
of natural law can be used to cause complete destruction
of the opponent as well. Once again, the opponent's own
force is manipulated, and used against him/her so that the
more determined their attack against you, the more damage
they will sustain. They are poetically choosing their own
degree of destruction.
Movie
6: This is Smith sensei's performance of the sword kata,
Keshi Ryu no Shiho, one of many swordsmanship kata we study.
Please note that the performance is faster than usual to
fit into the movie time.
